Zirconium synthesis furnaces - choose the best model for your prosthetic laboratory
Zirconium is a material with excellent aesthetic and mechanical properties, which is increasingly used in dental prosthetics. To obtain the maximum benefit from the use of zirconium, it is necessary to use an appropriate synthesizing furnace.
How does a zirconium sintering furnace work?
Zirconium sintering furnaces use a sintering process at high temperature (approx. 1550°C). During the sintering process, zirconium oxide particles combine with each other, creating a compact and durable structure.
What types of zirconium sintering furnaces are there?
Zirconium sintering furnaces can be divided into two main types:
- Conventional furnaces - use traditional heat sources, such as electric heaters or gas burners. Conventional ovens are less efficient than microwave ovens, but they are cheaper.
- Microwave ovens -- use radio waves to heat material. Microwave ovens are more efficient than conventional ovens and ensure a more even temperature distribution throughout the prosthetic work.
How to choose a zirconium sintering furnace?
When selecting a zirconium sintering furnace, the following factors should be considered:
- Type of material - zirconium sintering furnaces are designed to work with various types of zirconium oxide. You should choose a furnace that is suitable for the type of material from which prosthetic works will be made.
- Power - the power of the furnace determines how quickly it can reach the required temperature. Furnaces with higher power are more efficient and allow you to perform prosthetic work faster.
- Chamber size - the size of the furnace chamber determines how large prosthetic works can be sintered in it.
- Additional functions** - some zirconium sintering furnaces have additional functions, such as real-time temperature control or automatic cooling function.

Ferro Ring PTCR HTH for temperature control of the sintering process 15 pieces
PTCR-HTH 1450 – 1750 °C
Firing temperature control rings are highly accurate ceramic elements that indicate the actual amount of heat absorbed during the firing process. The sintering process causes the ring to shrink.
The shrinking process continues as long as the maximum temperature is maintained in the oven.
The degree of shrinkage – the amount by which the ring diameter has decreased – is measured using a numerical or digital micrometer.
It is recommended to place the rings in multiple locations and at different levels of the kiln as this provides the greatest control over the temperature distribution inside the kiln.
The degree of ring shrinkage corresponds to the amount of heat absorbed at the point in the furnace where the ring was placed. The diameter can be easily measured using a micrometer.
The letter “T” impressed on the ring should be positioned exactly in the notch (measuring notch) of the micrometer.
Both numerical and digital micrometers have an ergonomically designed solid base with a retaining ring clamp that ensures the ring is always properly positioned in the micrometer.
This design simplifies the measurement process and improves repeatability and therefore the reliability of measurements.

Mestra MICROWAVES II zirconium sintering furnace
A modern microwave sintering furnace for zirconium. MICROWAVES II version.
An oven using the latest technological advances in microwave heating.
This solution offers key advantages over conventional sintering furnaces:
- total sintering time: approx. 4 hours;
- heating time to 1550 ºC: 110 min;
- cooling to 300 ºC: 130 min.
Unlike conventional devices—in which heat penetrates from the outside into the structure—in a microwave oven, heat is generated simultaneously at all points within the material. This results in a much more even temperature distribution. The resulting sintered structure is cleaner, more durable, and more precise because there are no thermal "drafts" during heating.
Zirconia is a material with very high thermal resistance. In a traditional furnace, heating must occur very slowly, with numerous stabilization stages, to ensure the heat reaches the interior of the prosthesis. This causes long sintering cycles.
Key benefits:
- efficiency: the fastest program takes about 4 hours (110 min of heating + 130 min of cooling), which shortens the time compared to conventional ovens;
- economy and maintenance: lower power, fewer components and compact size translate into low maintenance costs, the furnace does not require delicate and expensive molybdenum disilicide heating elements;
- very low energy consumption: power consumption is only 800-1100 W during a full cycle;
- greater productivity: the ability to carry out several production cycles in one day, which significantly increases the efficiency of the workshop;
- ease of use: the device is extremely simple in everyday use;
- compact dimensions: the furnace is much smaller than standard devices – it will fit in any laboratory;
- ready to work: the stove is delivered with all necessary accessories for immediate start-up;
- comfort of work: the device practically does not release heat into the environment, which is extremely important in summer in closed rooms.
Technical data:
- dimensions (width x depth x height): 385 x 440 x 547 mm;
- weight: 31 kg;
- supply voltage: AC 230 V, 50 Hz;
- protection (fuse): 15 A;
- maximum power: 2000 W;
- maximum temperature: 1550 ºC.
